"Run with a Hero" ...our lanyard project

In 2014, the T2T Medina 5K introduced our lanyard, "Run with a Hero" program. Modeled after one of the country's largest stair climbs, we wanted each of our registered runners and walkers to have a 9/11 first responder to run for/with. We partnered with artist, Dawn Siebel (Better Angels: The Firefighters of 9/11), to provide a laminated card bearing a portrait of each of those who gave their life on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center. Additionally, we obtained photographs of the Port Authority police officers, NYPD, EMS and other first responders and had  cards made for them. Each participant, in addition to the lanyard, receives an envelope containing a brief biography of that first responder - so we never forget!

For the past four years hundreds of our participants have respectfully honored and treasured these memorial lanyards, many now request a specific name, or branch of service (FD, PD) - we hear many stories of how the lanyards have special places in the participant's home or office where they are always reminded of those lost and that we never forget!

Last year (2017), and again this year, the lanyards are sponsored by Fire-Dex.

This year, we will be encouraging participants to honor several fallen Ohio police officers by wearing a photo of the officer.
